Gatsby Cloud

Gatsby Cloud is a platform provided by Gatsby (the company), which was cofounded by Gatsby creator Kyle Mathews and Sam Bhagwat in 2019. Gatsby Cloud’s primary value proposition is the expertise of the Gatsby core team and tools catering directly to the Gatsby framework. As of this writing, Gatsby Cloud offers the following features:

  • Quick Connect. Gatsby Cloud’s developer onboarding process facilitates rapid integration of a CMS, a prepopulated content model, and a Gatsby starter that is already connected to the source data through its wizard.
  • Real-time preview. Gatsby Cloud provides content teams with the ability to preview content changes and code changes within the context of a Gatsby site using temporary URLs that are shareable across collaborative teams. Gatsby Cloud also offers a mechanism to hot-reload previews based on incoming webhook notifications from configured CMSs.
  • Builds. Gatsby Cloud provides a fast build service and offers deployments to CDN solutions and hosting providers like Netlify and Vercel.
  • Hosting. As of 2021, Gatsby Cloud provides a hosting service for Gatsby sites that includes a free TLS certificate supporting HTTPS.
  • Reports. Gatsby Cloud offers off-the-shelf support for automated Lighthouse reports that suggest improvements in performance and accessibility, giving developers optimization opportunities outside of manual Lighthouse reports during development.

Gatsby Cloud provides integrations with the following CMSs as well as POST endpoints for CMSs that support webhooks for features such as real-time preview:

  • Automatic CMS integration: Contentful, Cosmic, DatoCMS, Sanity
  • Manual CMS integration: Contentstack, Drupal, Strapi, WordPress

Gatsby Cloud also provides integrations with the following hosting providers:

  • Netlify
  • Amazon S3
  • Firebase
  • Google Cloud Storage
  • Fastly
